A week basking in the sun in January sure sounds good, doesn’t it? We want to invite you to join us as we travel to the Barcelo Maya Colonial Resort in the Mexican Riviera. We’ve vacationed at this resort for a number of years and find it a truly amazing & relaxing experience. Your entire trip will be fully escorted by Perry and myself. The resort has delightful rooms that open to the breezes of the Caribbean. All your meals are taken care of and there’s food available (just about all day long) in one of the 14 different restaurants including amazing buffets - morning, noon and night! Want something to drink? Water, soda and all domestic drinks are included and available at one of the 12 bars conveniently located around the resort. We’ll have time for walking the beach, soaking up the sun, enjoying a ride on a sail boat (with you or one of us at the rudder), or how about a swim in the ocean or snorkeling to see some of the amazing fish and sea turtles of the Caribbean? Every evening there are two different Las Vegas style shows that take place in the theatres. There is so much more to enjoy! Day 1 - Home to Barcelo Maya Resort
We’ll fly from Minneapolis/St Paul airport to Cancun, where you will be escorted through customs to a waiting motorcoach that will transport you to the front door of the Barcelo Maya Colonial Resort. You’ll get checked into your room and we’ll gather for an orientation reception, where you will find out all of the amenities this wonderful resort has to offer you for the next 7 days. There will be time to enjoy the beach before your evening meal and then enjoy the evening entertainment in one of the fine theatres.

Day 2 - Barcelo Maya Resort
Rise early today and watch the beautiful sunrise over the Caribbean or sleep in for a while; it doesn’t matter because the day is yours to enjoy. We’ll have a special meeting place set up near the beach where we will gather to go sailing or water triking together. Maybe you just want to enjoy a swim in one of the pools or the ocean- the choice is yours. Pack sunscreen- you don’t want to get burnt this early in the trip! Thirsty? Plenty to drink; just go and ask! Hungry? There is always food, help yourself. This evening enjoy another show in one of the two theatres or sit on the beach and watch the evening tide.

Day 3 - Tulum/Aktun-Chen
Today after breakfast we’ll board the motorcoach for a trip to the famous Mayan city of Tulum, a very important archaeological city which dates from the Post-Classic period and is the only Mayan settlement ever discovered to be completely surrounded by a wall and constructed along the sea. We will hear lots of information on the Mayan Culture from our guide. In Tulum we will see The Castle, a pyramid-like building crowned by a temple which commands magnificent views of the Caribbean Sea. After our visit to Tulum, we continue on to Aktun-Chen which in Mayan means “cave with an underground river inside”. We’ll walk in to a cave and enjoy the thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. At the end of the cave we will see a breathtaking cenote of crystal clear water. This evening will be free to enjoy the many amenities of your resort and don’t forget - another special show in one of the theatres.

Day 4 & 5 - Barcelo Maya Resort
Another magnificent free day at the resort. You can enjoy the day by yourself or your escorts will find some special activities to enjoy together. End your day with a walk on the beach by moonlight or enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

Day 6 - Playa Del Carmen
Are you ready for some world-class shopping? Playa del Carmen and its Fifth Avenue are waiting for you. You will discover all the treasures one can find on the small streets of this unique fascinating Caribbean town. There will be traditional Mexican art crafts and you can try your bartering skills with local market traders. You will also find many silver and clothing shops. It will be a day to enjoy the sights and sounds of the town of Playa del Carmen. We’ll return to the resort in the afternoon for a leisurely evening.

Day 7 - Barcelo Maya Resort
A final day to enjoy the beauty of your resort and all it has to offer. Have you tried out all of the pools yet? What about snorkeling? If you’re really daring you could try the parasailing!! (ask Donna about how fun that is!) Did you learn a new dance? Why not today. One final walk on the beach this evening before you enjoy another great evening show.

Day 8 - Barcelo Maya Resort to Home
What a great week! Rise early this morning take a quick walk around the pool and watch the sun rise over the Caribbean before a quick bite to eat and then a motorcoach ride to the airport for your trip back to Minnesota.
